I live on Merritt Island, FL with my wife Susan -- a landscape architect -- and 2 of my 3 children [the other living in Philadelphia as he interns for Campbell Soup].

A designer of logos and marketing materials, I have been doing this for over 30 years since moving to Florida from Cape Cod in 1974.

The domain “kreative.com” was purchased back in 1994 when you could call the people that managed domain names and pick a name over the phone.

“creative” was already in use, “kreative” seemed like a good phonetic alternative.

Kreative.com has survived 14 years as a domain identifying a creative company and is now my personal site.

What I’m working on now...[August, 08]

The core of what I enjoy the most is developing designs that quickly identify a concept. In practice, a logo is the most basic example I can use as an illustration. However, there are larger applications -- my most recent example is a poster for a local civic theater.

Dracula Posterx500

This is a work in progress [I’m missing copy]. The Dracula visual is a simple marker line drawing that was scanned, auto traced, altered quite a bit, and then filled with color. The red and black color palette is simple and dramatic. The serif font [Clarendon] is easy to read and doesn’t compete with the graphic. I thought about finding a more visual font, but the artwork turned out well enough that I didn’t think it needed the additional competition of a special font.

This original marker drawing was my starting point for the art. The hair, eyes, eyebrows, and mouth were heavily adjusted in Illustrator (CS3) as the graphic took shape. Adding attitude gave the Count more personality. The final design was assembled in InDesign.
